Taylor Swift advised fans traveling to her concert in Warsaw on Thursday not to panic upon hearing sirens that commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, a significant World War II event.
At 5 p.m. on August 1, the entire city pauses to honor the Polish insurgents who bravely fought against Nazi German occupation in 1944. Despite the solemnity, many Swift fans gathered near the stadium, blending their anticipation for the performance with a moment of respect for the historical occasion.
Polish news site Onet emphasized the day’s importance, urging concert-goers to remain calm and observe the tribute. The 63-day revolt is a poignant chapter in Poland’s history, with 200,000 Polish fighters and civilians killed as the Germans, backed by superior forces, crushed the uprising. Though Germany has since expressed remorse, Poles remain resentful toward the Soviets, who stood by without intervening. Swift is scheduled to perform in Warsaw for three consecutive nights starting Thursday.
