For 14 years, Blue Bloods stars Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg have portrayed the sibling duo Erin and Danny Reagan. Over time, their on-screen relationship has blossomed into a real-life friendship, with Bridget affectionately referring to Donnie as her “brother” on social media.
Interestingly, the pair crossed paths even before their Blue Bloods journey began in 2010. Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show in May, Donnie, 55, shared that he and Bridget initially met while working on a different, unaired pilot. Reflecting on their instant connection, he recalled, “We got along so well that I knew we’d be friends forever.”
When Donnie first read the script for Blue Bloods, he knew Bridget had to be cast as Erin. Despite initially turning down the role, Bridget was swayed after Donnie’s heartfelt persuasion. He jokingly promised her that if they didn’t film in New York, he’d hand over his paychecks. Fortunately, the show did shoot in the city, and Bridget signed on.
Their bond grew deeper over the years. Bridget even played matchmaker for Donnie, setting him up with his now-wife, Jenny McCarthy. “I knew there was already a spark between them,” Bridget said, adding that she gave Jenny a glowing recommendation when she asked about Donnie.
As Blue Bloods comes to an end, their friendship remains stronger than ever. On Donnie’s 55th birthday in August, Bridget shared a heartfelt post featuring a throwback photo of the two. “This is Donnie convincing me I needed another Leo in my life. He wasn’t wrong. Can’t imagine my life without my brother from another mother. Love you!”
Despite the show’s cancellation in November, the cast, including Bridget and Donnie, will reunite at PaleyFest in New York this October, celebrating their enduring bond both on and off the screen.
