Jennifer Esposito, determined to make her directorial debut in the mafia film “Fresh Kills” which focuses on women’s perspective, funded the movie herself by mortgaging her house after facing rejections and suggestions to cast a big-name man.
She was also inspired by her own experience of being nearly blacklisted by a Harvey Weinstein-like producer early in her career, and hopes “Fresh Kills” gives a voice to women like her younger self who were denied opportunities.
